Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on Modern Slavery

In 2014, Frank was selected to chair the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on the Government's Draft Modern Slavery Bill.

The Committee, comprised of Members of the House of Commons and members of the House of Lords, was formed to scrutinise the Government's draft Modern Slavery Bill and make recommendations for its improvement.

The Committee formally began its work on Tuesday 21st January 2014. It took written and oral evidence and made recommendations in a report to both Houses of Parliament in early April that year.

The Government's draft Bill was published on 16 December 2013 alongside the report of the Modern Slavery Bill Evidence Review, which Frank headed up.

During the first session of the Joint Select Committee, members of the the Committee unanimously agreed to use both the report of the Evidence Review and the recent report into the collection and use of data, published by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery, as official evidence.
